Easy Flaxseed Gel

Hey guys! It’s been a while! I apologize for my radio silence. I am back, but look for me to post more often on FB than here on the blog for the time being. My laptop crashed 😩 I am trying to resuscitate it however, it is looking like ill need a new one! You can also follow me on instagram @ohh_she_glows

I just wanted to pop in to do a quick DIY post for flaxseed gel! If you’ve never heard of flaxseed let me tell you a little bit about it. It is tiny tiny seed but it packs a big nutritional punch! It is full of omega 3’s which are the good fats. Good fats are crucial to overall health and as a bonus they feed your skin and hair.

At home I sprinkle whole flax seed over yogurt, blend it up in a smoothie, oatmeal etc, basically wherever I can sneak them in without Cutie noticing. You can find whole flax seeds at most grocery stores in the baking or health foods aisle.

To make flax seed gel you will need 1 cup of flax seeds and 2 cups of water! Place the flax seeds and the water in a pot set on medium heat.

You want the flax seeds to simmer until it the water turns to gel. Watch the pot and stir often! Once it starts to coat your spatula it is done!

You can tailor the thickness of the gel to your liking. If you want a thicker gel, simmer just a tad bit longer. Just be mindful that you will have to strain the gel from the seeds so make sure it will pass through your strainer easily.

After you have strained your gel it is good to go! Thats it! Oh yea keep those seeds you strained off! You can use the same seeds multiple times to make more gel (el cheapo tip).

I like to make a big batch and keep it in a mason jar in the fridge. This will keep for about 2 weeks.

What can you use it for?! I like to use this for wash and go’s, twist outs, flat twist, roller sets (wet or dry). It gives excellent definition and a nice hold without the crunch. Plus its basically a super food for your hair, strengthening and nourishing it.

Flax seed twist out day one. Twist set on dry hair. Check out the video on Instagram!

Since this is a water based gel make sure you use it sparingly if you’re doing a dry set style. Too much will cause your hair to revert.

Thats it you guys! Told ya it was simple. Try it, you’ll love it. ❤ Ash
